Equipment

  • 1 8 ounce Ball Jar wth lid- choose one that has no pattern on the glass to maximize visibility.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounce Gin
  • ½ ounce Lemon Ginger Simple Syrup
  • ½ ounce Lemon juice
  • 4 ounce Club Soda (or to top of jar)
  • 1 Sprig rosemary
  • A sprinkle of White or silver edible glitter.

Instructions

  • Fill the mason jar with 1 ounce water (about 1 inch)
  • Cut a 3 inch sprig of rosemary, lightly spread the needles out to make the "tree" fuller.
  • Place rosemary sprig in the jar, standing upright in the water. The rosemary needles should be spread enough to touch the side of the far so it stands upright.
  • Place it in the freezer for 1 hour until the water in the jar is frozen.
  • Once it is frozen, add gin, lemon ginger simple syrup, lemon juice and half a white or silver glitter packet- or about ⅛ tsp.
  • Place lid on jar and shake.
  • Remove lid and add club soda, serve and enjoy!

Notes

Notes:

  • You can use lemon simple syrup in place of ginger simple syrup if you would like- or even regular simple syrup if you would like to keep the snowglobe a little clearer.
  • The lemon juice and simple syrup do add a little cloudiness, so if you really want a clear view of your snow globe, just do a plain gin and tonic, or vodka soda instead. It will still be refreshing, and the snow globe effect is the star!
  • Choose a rosemary sprig with longer needles and spread them out so that they touch the sides of the jar. This helps it stand up while its freezing.
  • Another strategy with the rosemary is to use a sprig that is a little taller than the jar, then use two skewers (or break one in half) and lay the skewers on top of the jar with one skewer on either side of the rosemary sprig. This will help secure it until it freezes. Once it has frozen, snip the top of the rosemary off so it is shorter than the mason jar.
  • This drink was designed in a mason jar instead of a wine or cocktail glass for 2 reasons-
    • Mason jars are generally freezer safe, (make sure you check yours) so there will be no threat of it breaking. When using wine or other glasses, you have to be careful with the glass you choose and the way you freeze it so that it doesn't shatter.
    • Also, a mason jar has a lid, so you can give the cocktail a good shake so the glitter snow flies around right before you serve it!
  • Have so much fun with the sweet little Winter Snow globe cocktail!
