It is officially Fall! I am ready, are you?? If not, this SUPER easy DIY Pinecone garland will catapult you into falling leaf watching, pumpkin spice smelling, cozy sweater wearing, season! The fun part about this garland is that it can be used throughout fall, and then with a teeny tweak, will be perfect for Winter! You will have your decorations for 2 seasons covered in just one easy project! You can’t beat it!
What you need for this project:
This really is such a cheap and easy DIY Pinecone project. If you have a yard FULL of pinecones like we do, the only cost is the Jute twine, and possibly the glue gun if you choose to make it a little bit more ornate. If you don’t have a yard full of pinecones, you can easily buy them at your local craft store, or Amazon.
In order to create this Pinecone Garland, you will need:
- About 20 large Pinecones
- 12 feet of Jute Twine
- Optional~ Smaller pinecones and a Glue Gun
How to Make a Pinecone Garland…
To make the garland, you simply weave the jute twine around the lowest open “petals” on the pinecone. You may need to gently lift them up to get the twine securely wound tight. Once the twine is woven completely around the whole base, tie it close to the “trunk” of the pinecone. Move on and repeat this process with all of the pinecones. This should create a garland that is about 6 feet long.
This garland is perfectly perfect, as is, but if you are feeling that you want something a little less minimalist, you can keep going! Get out your hot glue gun and glue smaller pinecones, or bits of pine boughs etc. into the little spots between the pinecones. If you use natural materials such as leaves or pine boughs, keep in mind that they will wilt and brown. However, if you would like this look to last, you can either replace the natural materials every couple of weeks or so, or you can also find some good natural alternatives.
In the winter season, simply replace the fall foliage fill ins, with something a little more wintery, such as Holly Berries, or sprigs of frosted pine boughs. It is also beautiful without the fill ins and simply a small string of battery operated fairy lights. It is YOUR Pinecone garland, so get creative and have fun! ♥️
How to Decorate with your Pinecone Garland…
I am so in love with my pinecone garlands! They add such a festive, yet minimalist touch to the fall decorating. They can be used in so many different places. The spots that get a pinecone garland in our house, every year are:
- Fireplace Mantel.
- Who doesn’t love the look of a Pinecone Garland, weaving its way along the mantel? For a magical glow, strategically place fairy lights, or a few candles in and around it. To be extra careful, use battery operated candles. There are so many of these available and from a distance they create a pretty, authentic looking glow.
- Kitchen Bar Cart
- We have a little bar cart that we dress up with various seasonal decorations. In the fall, we string a pinecone garland in front of him. It adds just a subtle touch of fall without going overboard. In the winter, we leave the garland, but “winterize” it and it stays on through January! It is always so hard to take it off at the end of the seasons.
- Headboard
- I think my favorite use of a pinecone garland, is hanging it on the headboard of our beds. Our guests always comment on how lovely they are. It adds a cozy, natural touch to the room that makes it feel very special.
- Centerpiece on the Table
- Another lovely and magical use is winding a garland down the center of the Dining Table. Add a couple of pillar candles in lovely glass vases and/or one larger hurricane candle holder. It kind of takes the place of a table runner, and looks much more naturally festive.
I hope you have fun creating this DIY Pinecone Garland! If you do, I would love to hear from you in the comments below! How did you use yours? Thank you and thank you for visiting mollieinmontana~*♥️
