These Crispy Salmon Skin Dog Treats are a perfect way to use up any uneaten Salmon skins, (like the ones from my recipe for Crispy Salmon Cakes with Creamy Basil Lime Sauce) and score some serious points with your pooches! If you have ever purchased Salmon skin treats from the store, you know that they aren't cheap, so here is the perfect way to get those very same treats, without spending any extra money! An extra bonus in using the skins this way is that you will avoid having them stink up your trash can!

Is Salmon Healthy for Dogs?

Salmon is such a good, healthy treat for Dogs. The same Omega-3 Fatty Acids that are so good for us, are just as good for them! They help in decreasing inflammation, boosting immune health and they help create a shiny and healthy coat! If you would like a little more detailed information about this, HERE is a great article from the American Kennel Association about the healthy benefits of Salmon for your Dog.

How to make Salmon Skin Dog Treats

  1. Preheat your Oven to 425°
  2. Slice the skin into bite size strips. I usually try to cut them about 2 inches long and half and inch wide.
  3. Bake them for 12 minutes and then check them for crispness. The smaller and thinner the skin, the faster they will crisp up.
  4. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Remove them from the oven and let them cool completely before sharing with your 4 legged buddies!

TO keep these safe for your pooch, Just make sure that the skins you use, are not seasoned with Salt, Pepper, garlic or onions.♥️

After

I don't know about you, but I don't care to eat fish skins. I know that some people love the skin, but if you are like me, they are usually all that is left on my plate after a Salmon dinner. Without fail there are always 2 sets of big brown puppy dog eyes staring at me, just hoping that before I throw them away, I will think of them!

Just remember that they are, "TREATS", so they should be rationed out and not given all at once. I know it is hard to resist when they use their Jedi Puppy mind tricks on you, but be strong! They will last just that much longer and you will have treats for days to come!

Other "Treats" from Amazon to help you Spoil your Pup...

Our, "Mr. Worm" loves this couch style bed. If we are ever wondering where he is...He is on his couch bed.

This Furminator is a shedding game changer!! You won't believe how much this helps with shedding. Our Rally Roo is a mini Aussie, and I swear we could build another dog with the undercoat that we get off her with the Furminator!

The Hammock is a must have for car rides! Our back seat still looks like new even after so many fun rides in the car with the Pups!

How do you store the salmon skin treats? And how long will they last?

Hi Chris! There are a couple of ways to store these treats. They will last for about 5 days if you store them in the fridge in an airtight container (like a glass snap lock type). Just make sure that they have cooled completely before sealing them in the container. Any warmth (steam) will cause the treats to get soft, (but they will still be delicious!) so just make sure they have completely cooled before sealing them up. They will last about 5 days in the fridge. Another way you can store them is in the freezer. This way they will last several months. You can store them in the freezer in snap lock glass or plastic containers, but they take up so much space! Ziplocs are nice, because you can squeeze out the excess air, and then they will be very compact and lay flat in your freezer. Freezing these treats is my favorite way to store these because you can pull them out and give your pups a cool treat on a hot summer day! Thank you for the questions, I hope your pups love them! 🙂
